FIRST DAY SOFIA
Arrival in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. Accommodation and dinner
SECOND DAY SOFIA- SIGHTSEEING TOUR
Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Sofia – a city with a 7000 years long history, concentrating numerous cultural and historic monuments from different periods. Visits of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral with the richest collection of icons on the Balkan peninsula, the St. George Rotunda from the 4 century, the St.Sofia Basilica, the Ruins of Serdica. Lunch. In the afternoon time for shopping in Sofia. Dinner and overnight.
THIRD DAY SOFIA-RILA MONASTERY-MELNIK-BANSKO
Breakfast. Departure to the Rila Monastery/10th c./ , included in the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage, the largest and the most admirable Bulgarian monastery. Tour of the Rila monastery, church and museum with its lavish collection of precious old manuscripts, icons, jewelry, masterpieces of woodcarving, and ethnographic exhibition of fabrics and carpets. Lunch with fresh mountain trout menu. Continue to Melnik for visit of the Kordopoulova house and wine tasting of the famous wines from the region. Proceed to one of the best Bulgarian winter resorts – Bansko. Cobblestone streets, traditional stone houses and richly endowed churches create an unique ambience in the old city. Dinner in a typical tavern with local specialties. Overnight.
FOURTH DAY BANSKO-PLOVDIV
Breakfast. Departure to Plovdiv – the city ranking second in importance after Sofia. Sightseeing of the Old town of Plovdiv with its 4000 years long history, National Revival architecture and excavations from Roman times. Visit of the ancient Roman Amphitheater with impressive marble statues, decorative columns and arcades. Time for shopping for souvenirs and art. Dinner at a restaurant with typical Bulgarian meals. Overnight.
FIFTH DAY PLOVDIV-BACHKOVO MONASTERY-KAZANLAK
Breakfast. Drive southwards of Plovdiv and visiting the Bachkovo Monastery / 11th c./ - one of the richest galleries of the old Bulgarian art with its exquisite murals and medieval icons. Departure to a local winery – wine tasting of local wines among which Mavrud – unique Bulgarian sort of grapes and wine. Continue to Kazanlak, the center of the famous Valley of Roses. Dinner and overnight.
SIXTH DAY KAZANLAK-ETARA-VELIKO TARNOVO
After breakfast sighseeing in Kasanlak- the Rose Museum, the Historical museum and one of the UNESCO’s sites – the Thracian Tomb /4th c.B.C/. Time for shopping for Rose products. Departure for the open air museum of old crafts Etara, where Bulgarian crafts are practiced as in old times, and tourists can buy from the craftsmen directly. Continue to Veliko Tarnovo. Accommodation and dinner.
SEVENTH DAY VELIKO TARNOVO-ARBANASSI-VELIKO TARNOVO-SOFIA
Drive to the museum town of Arbanassi, where tourists will experience cooking of Bulgarian cheese pie Banitsa and making Bulgarian yoghurt. Sightseeing and visit the Church of Nativity. Lunch. City tour in Veliko Tarnovo. Visiting Tsarevets hill - an impressive sight with its imposing Medieval fortifications and dramatic architecture. Continuing to Sofia. Dinner at a restaurant with folk show. Overnight.
EIGHTH DAY SOFIA
Breakfast. Departure flight.
